While team and league sources suggest that the Los Angeles Lakers and Austin Reaves will ultimately settle on a mutually agreeable contract, there remains a real possibility that Reaves could depart if a rival team presents a lucrative offer.
According to rival executives, Reaves could command around $40 million annually, driven by his strong performance, relatively young age, and, crucially, a free-agent class that lacks comparable prime-aged producers.
At this stage, only the Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets — both in need of backcourt help — possess the salary-cap flexibility to meet that price point. Other teams, including the Utah Jazz and Atlanta Hawks, have shown interest according to league sources, but would need to clear cap space through roster transactions to make a competitive bid.
