What started as a routine Late Model dirt race at I-75 Raceway in the Best Plumber 604 Series quickly turned dangerous, as driver Greg Martin was involved in an intentional wreck that left fans demanding a lifetime ban from the sport. The incident escalated to the point where legal authorities are now being asked to step in.

“Following a review of the events that took place during last night’s feature race, the Best Plumber 604 Racing Series has made the decision to suspend Greg Martin from all Best Plumber 604 Racing Series events for a minimum of 2 years,” the series announced after reviewing footage. “Driver and crew safety is of the utmost importance to the Best Plumber 604 Racing Series. All participants are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that protects the safety of competitors, crews, officials, fans, and partner tracks. The Best Plumber 604 Racing Series will continue to uphold the standards of conduct expected at all series events.”

The situation unfolded when driver Cory Hedgecock came to a stop on track, apparently hitting the master switch on his engine while the race continued. Although Hedgecock had stopped near his crew, a chain of events followed. Shortly after, Hedgecock’s father allegedly made contact with Martin’s car while the race was still underway. In response, Martin drove to the center of the dirt track and deliberately struck Hedgecock’s vehicle.

“I may be wrong but I believe he got a 2 year ban for this!!!!!” one observer tweeted, sharing a clip of the crash.

The impact not only damaged Hedgecock’s car but also knocked at least two crew members to the ground, as they were standing near the vehicle. The incident was deemed extremely hazardous, putting multiple lives at risk over what began as an on-track dispute. While intentional wrecks in NASCAR typically involve spinning cars that keep drivers relatively safe, this situation endangered not only the drivers but also crew personnel.

The two-year suspension marks one of the harshest penalties in motorsports, and it came at a particularly unfortunate time for Martin. He had been announced as a contender for the Rookie of the Year Award earlier this season, and he was a previous winner at I-75 Raceway. Now, he will not return to compete in the series.

Despite the severity of the punishment, many fans believe it is not enough, calling for a lifetime ban and urging legal authorities to investigate further. The series has not commented on any potential legal action.
