Steve Kerr signs new Warriors contract extension

Posted on: 05/10/2026

The Golden State Warriors have reportedly finalized a new two-year contract extension with Steve Kerr, ensuring he remains the head coach for the foreseeable future.

Kerr’s previous deal was nearing its expiration, but the new agreement will keep him on the bench for his 13th and 14th seasons with the franchise. The extension is also expected to make him the highest-paid head coach in the NBA.

Kerr originally took over the Warriors ahead of the 2015-16 season and immediately turned the team into a title contender. In his first year as head coach, he led Golden State to a 67-15 regular-season record and an NBA championship. That success sparked five consecutive Finals appearances, with the Warriors winning additional titles in 2017 and 2018.

The veteran coach later guided the franchise back to another championship in 2022, though the team has missed the playoffs in two of the last four seasons since then.

The extension also aligns Kerr’s future slightly beyond the current contracts of franchise cornerstones Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler. Reports indicate that both Curry and Green are expected to eventually sign new deals to continue their long careers in Golden State.
